The recent  slump in the area’s coal industry was what prompted
a number of citizens to meet on
October 24, 1955. The survial of
Hastings  and the  surrounding   communities  depended on  new
industry.  After much discussion  and many good ideas and reco-
mmendations,  the  Hastings  Area Industrial  Development Ass-
ociation was formed. 

Listed  are  some of the major  projects and  causes that  HAIDA
devoted it's energies to:

2007   9 of 16 lots in Laurel Drive Development have been sold
          and being or have been erected  

2006   HAIDA Professional Building, dedicated and currently
          houses six tenants

2005  Business Park sign erected with 7 business Invitations for bids for the HAIDA professional building
         Ground breaking for HAIDA Professional Building1962  Contracts approved for the construction of a
         20,000 sq. ft. building for Carol Ann Fashions

2004  New building Laurel Drive Extension Covenants and restriction policy was developed and approved

2001  Started to purchase right of ways for the 4.2 million dollar access road to the Industrial Park from
         Route 219

1998  Donated 11 acres of ground to Miners Hospital of Northern Cambria for a new facility

1996  PIDA loan to establish LeapFrog building into a multi-tenant building doubling size to accommodate
         their needs

1992  Entered into an agreement with LeapFrog Technologies to lease shell building

1987  Construction began on a 12,000 sq foot shell building in the industrial park

1983  Open house celebration at HAIDA Manor-now known as Beverly Healthcare

1982  Sold 3 acres of land to Astelford & Associates. Construction began on nursing facility now known as
         Beverly Healthcare-HAIDA Conveyed land to Hastings Borough and Elder Township for the purpose of
         street through the Industrial Park, now known as HAIDA Avenue Sold land to HAIDA Village 
         Partnership for $30,000 Mortgage burning celebration by Carol Ann Fashions Donated parcel of land to
         the Hastings Ambulance Association for new facility with the stipulation that land revert to  HAIDA in
         the event the Ambulance Association ceases to exit

1981  Construction began on the housing project now known as HAIDA Village

1980  Provided financial support to Miner's Hospital of Northern Cambria Terry Astelford interested in 
         building the proposed skilled nursing facility Provided financial support to the Hastings Volunteer Fire
         Company to purchase new truck

1979  Purchased mobile to provide office space for Dr. Ignacio

1977  Provided support and endorsed the establishment of Dr. Jan Brown's practice

1975  Provided support to Dr. Joseph Sabo for the establishment of his medical practice

1969  Purchase the Hricko property on Kirk Street for $2,500 and began developing a mobile home site now
         known as "Sunnybrook Village". Provided financial support to the Hastings Library for the purchase
         of Mc Dermott building

1968  Developed home site project known as "Brookside" and began to sell lots Pavilion donated to the park
         by HAIDA Purchased 40.5 acres for $20,000, formerly known as E. Kirkpatrick property.

1962  Contracts approved for the construction of a 20,000 sq. ft. building for Carol Ann Fashions

1959  HAIDA lease a building to Ace Footwear, Inc. and expansion began on the building to provide a total  
         area of 30,000 sq. ft.

1957  Ground  breaking  ceremony  for  the  Association’s first shell  building  was  held  on  May  20th. The 
         tract of land purchased  Herman  Kirkpatrick  was  annexed  into  the Borough.
